Blogger of the Week: Alice from Super Gorgeous

It’s a New Year and what better way to kick off the working week than with a new Blogger of the Week. Our first of 2013 comes highly recommended by and it’s the lovely Alice from Super Gorgeous. Here she shares her beauty tricks and tips and what she would recommend for the coming year.

Alice at Super Gorgeous Blog

1. Tell us about your blog. How did it all start?
I started my blog when I split up with a boyfriend and wanted something to keep me occupied. I never expected that anyone other than my friends would read it and certainly never imagined it would get to where it is now!

2. What are your failsafe make up tips?
Even if you’re on a budget make sure you colour-match your foundation properly! Test it on your face, neck or chest – NOT your hand! It’s so important as it can ruin the rest of the look if your foundation is the wrong shade for you! Make putting lip balm on part of your bedtime routine – your lips will be soft and smooth and ready for whatever product you want to put on them! And lastly – invest in Seche Vite, it has changed my life! The most amazing top coat which makes your nails dry super-fast and glossy.

3. Name 3 makeup essentials which you cannot live without?
Foundation (Estee Lauder Doublewear), Mascara (Clinique High Impact Extreme Volume) and Blusher (MAC Stereo Rose). Once they’re on, I start to look a little less scary!

4. What has been your favourite make up trend so far this year?
I’ve been glad to see people embracing the bold lip more – I love a vampy purple or a gorgeous red on the lip, and orange or pink in the summer.

5. We are well into Autumn/Winter. What is your favourite purchase so far this season?
I love all the make up palettes that come out at Christmas time. I’ve really enjoyed the Bobbi Brown ones this year – the Bellini Palette had gorgeous eyeshadow colours perfect for both day and night time looks.

6. Favourite celeb collaboration for Very and why?
My favourite collaboration is the Fearne Cotton collection – she just has a bit of an edge, and some of the shoes are to die for!

7. Favourite high street make up brand?
I think Barry M is fantastic value – their nail polishes are often on offer 2 for £5 and the quality and range of colours are great. Their eyeliner is a staple in my make up bag, and the Lash Modelling mascara is a winner too! A lot of their products are as good as their high end competitors in my eyes.

8. Any advice for aspiring bloggers on how to start a fashion or beauty blog?
Don’t worry too much if people don’t start reading it immediately – just let it happen naturally and enjoy it! Try to post regularly, but if you are getting stressed out over it, step away and try again the next day – you don’t want to turn something you love into something you hate! And don’t do it just because you think you’ll get loads of freebies, blogging requires hard work and dedication!

9. Who are your favourite beauty blogs to read?
This is SO hard because I follow and love so many! I have actually sat here for around an hour thinking about which blogs I will say and I’m still struggling… so the first 10 that come into my head – What I Heart Today, Vivianna Does MakeUp, Leanne-Marie, Strawberry Blonde Beauty Blog, Black Pearl Blog, ReallyRee, Goss Make Up Artist, LipSo Facto, A Little Obsessed, Buy Now Blog Later. Phew!

10. Lastly, if you had to ban one make up or beauty item off the planet what would it be?
I think that everything has its place *somewhere* – although something may look ridiculous on the high street, it may look amazing on a catwalk at London Fashion Week. However, I don’t think orange fake tan looks good on anyone, anywhere! I’m also not a lover of lipstick, so pale pink or nude that it’s almost white.
