Little Black Dresses To Suit Every Party Budget

Little Black Dress

Not all women love to don a colourful dress for the party season, and that is absolutely nothing to be ashamed of. Ask any woman what one item they need in their wardrobe for the festive season and they will more than likely tell you it’s a little black dress.

If you choose to wear a LBD this party season, don’t worry that you won’t stand out in a crowd full of women dressed in all the colours of the rainbow. Firstly, if you feel comfortable, you will instantly look gorgeous. Secondly, sometimes you’re more likely to stand out in a sharp, bold black dress than you are something colourful. And thirdly, you have far more scope to dress up and accessorise your outfit than someone who’s wearing a colourful dress.

You truly cannot beat a little black dress.

Under £50

Missguided: Olivia Asymmetric Jersey Dress, Black – £19.99

If this isn’t the true definition of a “little” black dress, then I don’t know what is. Described as a “lust-have”, this dress really is a must-have for those who feel comfortable enough in their own skin to party the night away in a slinky, asymmetric hem, midi dress. There are some genius bras out there these days that mean you can still be protected from a Janet Jackson style nip slip, whilst not having to show off ghastly straps in this sexy number.

New Look: Anita and Green Black Lace Sleeveless Dress – £27.99

This LBD is covered in a nice, semi-thick lace that will keep you warm whilst out in the cold, as well as cool when you’re showing off your moves on the dance floor. What’s cute about this dress is that the lace cover is longer than the dress itself, showing off the detailing against your skin. Team this with some chunky black and gold heels and you’re set to shimmy the night away.

Missguided: Crissy Cut Out Long Sleeve Bodycon Dress, Black – £29.99

This dress has many aspects that immediately catch your attention. The dress has a fierce V cut neckline, which is then complimented by the contrasting long sleeve on the left hand side, and you can team it with a glam belt (not included) for even more pazazz! This mini dress will bowl everyone over – just don’t forget to team it up with some killer heels and an oversized clutch.

Miss Selfridge: Black Panelled Bandage Dress – £36

For those of you who want to flash a little bit of flesh, show off your cheeky side and let the world know that you have a body to die for, this is the LBD for you. This panelled, stretch bandage bodycon dress will hug your body in all of the right places, with the mesh panels giving off a hint of skin without actually getting your skin out. What’s more, this dress is currently on sale down from £45 – can you say ‘bargain’?

House of Fraser: Therapy 2 in 1 Party Dress – £39

Who doesn’t love a 1 in 1 dress? This shift dress with shirt collar gives off the impression of a blouse tucked into a skirt, but it’s not, don’t let it fool you. This is ideal for any body shape, tucking in at the waist, flaring out a little at the hips and flashing a hint of cleavage (from the right angle).

£51 – £150

Dorothy Perkins: Another Label Cap Sleeve Bodycon – £52.25

Watch out world – there’s a HPOA coming through. Dresses like this became really popular over recent years thanks to reality stars on shows such as TOWIE, and as long as you’re happy to flaunt your curves then this is the dress for you. The belted waist will tuck in any sign of a tummy whilst also flaunting your bottom, your thighs and your bust – if you don’t already have an hourglass figure, you will when you step into this LBD.

Dorothy Perkins: Black Lazer Cut Tassle Dress – £59.50

This 1920’s inspired dress is yet another time class classic on this list of must- have LBDs. Featuring all over tassles and adjustable straps, you can wear this dress tightened or low-cut,  giving off a waterflow effect no matter where you shimmy. Party the night in style – everyone’s going to be mesmerised.

House of Fraser: Morgan Tight Dress With Lace Overlay – £79

This bustier dress with lace overlay is the sort of dress you’d expect to see the Kardashians wearing. The vertical detailing on this dress will simply and elegantly enhance your curves, and even if you have a body shape that doesn’t provide this type of curve, don’t fret because the dress will do that for you.

John Lewis: French Connection Edie Sleeveless V-Neck Dress, Black – £125

French Connection are renowned for their gorgeous little black dresses, and Winter 2014/15 is no different. This LBD in John Lewis may be a little longer than you’d expect, but the split on the back of the skirt and the cut out detail to the bust give off a feminine, cheeky vibe, whilst still being sensible. Team this with a sleek pair of heels and some statement jewellery and you’ll have all eyes on you.

All Saints: Myrthe dress – £138

This twist on the LBD is stunning… just stunning. Made up of juxtaposed silk and sheer layers, this dress might not be what you expect in a little black dress, but the flowy form is bang on trend for Winter 2014/15 and shows others just how playful you are. This dress can be work in the day with a pair of knee-high boots and in the evening with some stunning heels, an oversized clutch and some statement gold jewellery.

£151 – £250

Marks and Spencer: Leather Ponte Skater Dress – £174.30

Leather never goes out of fashion, and this little number from the M&S collection just goes to prove that. With simple aesthetics in mind, the panelling on this dress just adds to the skater layout and who doesn’t love doing a twirl or two on the dancefloor?

John Lewis: Whistles Winona Lace Dress, Black – £225

Traditional, timeless, classic, feminine, chic… there are so many words to describe this dress. Elegant is my favourite word though. Cinching in at the waist, this timeless dress shape will flatter any body shape, drawing eyes to all the right places. The designers have used lace with discreet mesh panelling, scalloped hems, exposed sleeves and a floaty skater skirt that will make you the envy of the party when you choose to do a swirl on the dancefloor. No matter how you feel about your body, this dress will make you feel like the Belle of the ball.

John Lewis: Gina Bacconi Pin Tuck Jersey Dress, Black – £230

Made up of stunning pin tuck detailing, this LBD is ideal for the winter months as it’s one of a few that comes with sleeves to keep you that little bit protected from the harsh, winter air. The cross-over effect on the front enhances your cleavage, whilst also drawing eyes to the sheer lace yoke. The biggest bonus about this dress is that it comes in a wide range of sizes, from 8 to 26 and really does flatter and slim all body shapes and sizes.

Urban Outfitters: Vanessa Bruno Athé Beth Crepe De Chine Dress in Black – £234

Wearing a little black dress over the festive period doesn’t mean you have to freeze – the saying ‘sometimes less is more’ can apply to baring your skin, just as much as it does wearing an outfit. Oversized, flowy, long sleeved dresses come straight from the runway, and this dress will keep you ahead of fashion at the office party.

All Saints: Turi Leather Dress – £248

This gorgeous LBD is made of sleek European stretch leather, with a jersey insert at the back to keep you warm during the Winter months. This dress was designer with natural beauty in mind and is set to make you stand out in the crowd. If you’re worried about not wearing it enough for its money, fear not: you can wear this dress to the office with a white shirt and heels, and then with a slight change to your accessories, hair and makeup, this dress transitions perfectly for a night out. Being from All Saints, this dress only comes in sizes 4 to 14, but all eyes are guaranteed to be on you – what’s not to love?
